Notifications

Modulix tells you when something concerns you: a task assigned to you, an approval waiting for your decision, a mention in a comment. Notifications appear in the app under the bell in the top bar, and can also reach you by email and as push notifications in your browser. You decide which kinds of notifications use which channels.

This page covers what you see and choose as a user. For the administrator side (delivery log, email provider, messages to members), see Notifications administration.

Before you begin

The Notifications module must be enabled for your organization. Without it, there is no bell and Modulix does not send notifications. Every member can use the bell, the inbox and their own notification settings; no permission is needed.

The bell

The bell is in the top bar, on every page. A badge on it shows how many unread notifications you have.

  1. Select the bell. The latest notifications appear, the unread ones marked with a dot.
  2. Select a notification to open what it is about, for example the task or the record. It is marked as read.
  3. To mark everything as read, select Mark all as read (the double-check button at the top).
  4. To see older notifications, select View all.

If you have nothing new, the bell says You're all caught up.

Recent notifications under the bell.

The inbox

The inbox lists all your notifications, newest first. To open it, select View all under the bell, or open the command palette and choose Open notifications.

At the top, the inbox says how many notifications are unread, for example 3 unread.

  • Select All or Unread to choose what the list shows.
  • Select a notification to open what it is about. It is marked as read.
  • Select Mark as unread next to a read notification to keep it for later.
  • Select Delete next to a notification to remove it from your inbox.
  • Select Mark all as read to clear the unread count.

Notifications are kept for 90 days by default; your organization can choose another period. Older ones are deleted automatically.

Choose what reaches you

Open your notification settings in one of these ways:

  • Select the settings button under the bell or at the top of the inbox.
  • On your profile, select Settings in the Notifications card.
  • In the command palette, choose Notification settings.

The Notification settings page opens. Your choices apply in the organization you are working in.

Choosing channels per kind of notification.

Channels

The Channels card has a switch per channel. Turning a channel off stops it for every kind of notification.

ChannelWhere notifications go
In-appThe bell in the top bar and the inbox.
EmailThe email address of your account.
PushThe browsers you enabled for push (see below).

To check your setup, select Send me a test. Modulix sends a test message through the channels that are on for Messages and tells you which ones it used.

A channel can show Turned off for the organization: an administrator switched it off for everyone, and you cannot turn it on. If the email channel shows No mail server configured yet, the server cannot send emails yet; ask your administrator.

Kinds of notifications

The Notifications card lists each kind of notification with a switch per channel (In-app, Email, Push). Each kind starts with the channels its module chose, and you can change them.

MessagesAdministrators or workflows send you a message.In-app, email, push

You only see the kinds of notifications of modules your organization has enabled. A switch that shows Always shown in the app cannot be turned off: that kind of notification always appears in your inbox.

Push on your devices

Push notifications appear on your computer or phone even when Modulix is not open in a tab.

  1. On the Notification settings page, in Push on your devices, select Enable in this browser.
  2. When your browser asks, allow notifications for this site.

Modulix shows Push enabled in this browser and adds the browser to the list, marked This browser. Do this on each computer or phone where you want push notifications. To stop push on a device, select the remove button next to it.

If the card says:

  • "Notifications are blocked for this site…": you refused notifications earlier. Allow them in your browser's site settings, then reload the page.
  • "This browser does not support push notifications.": use another browser for push.
  • "Push notifications are turned off for the organization.": an administrator turned push off for everyone.

Get emails as a digest

By default, Modulix sends one email per notification. To get fewer emails, gather them in a digest:

  1. Open your Profile.
  2. In Notifications preferences, set Emails to A daily digest or A weekly digest (Mondays).
  3. Choose the Digest time, in your time zone.
  4. Select Save changes.

The digest is one email that lists each notification with its link. In-app and push notifications are never delayed.

Tips

  • Turn on push for Approval requests and Task reminders if you work with Modulix in the background: they are the notifications that most often need a quick answer.
  • If you get too many emails, keep notifications in the app and turn Email off for the kinds you check in the inbox anyway, or switch to a daily digest.
