Organization settings
The Settings page holds the configuration that applies to everyone in your organization. The General section sets the organization's defaults, such as its currency and fiscal year. Every enabled module that has settings adds its own section.
Before you begin
- To see the Settings page, you need View organization settings (
core.settings.read). - To change settings, you need Edit organization settings (
core.settings.manage). Owners and administrators have both by default.
People who can only view settings see the values, with the note "You can view but not change these settings."
Open the settings
- In the sidebar, under Administration, select Settings.
- Select a section in the list on the left: General, or the name of a module.
General settings
| Setting | What it does | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Legal company name | Your organization's legal name. | Empty |
| Default language | The language of the app for people who have not chosen one on their profile. Each person's browser language lets each browser decide. | Each person's browser language |
| Time zone | The time zone used to show dates and times to people who have not chosen one. Each person's device time zone lets each device decide. | Each person's device time zone |
| Default currency | The organization's currency. Modules use it as the default for amounts, prices and new records. | USD |
| Date format | How dates are written everywhere in the app, for everyone: yyyy-MM-dd, dd/MM/yyyy, MM/dd/yyyy or dd.MM.yyyy. | yyyy-MM-dd |
| Fiscal year starts in | The first month of your fiscal year. Accounting uses it for fiscal years and periods, and financial statements use it for year-to-date figures. | January |
For how language, time zone, number and date formats combine with personal preferences, see Languages and localization.
Set the Default currency, Time zone and Fiscal year starts in before you start entering financial data. A Canadian company with a fiscal year starting in April, for example, sets CAD, America/Toronto and April.
Change a setting
- Open the section that contains the setting.
- Change one or more values.
- Select Save changes. Modulix shows Settings saved.
Only the values you changed are saved. Changes to General (language, time zone, date format, currency) apply right away for everyone. Every change is recorded in the audit log with the values before and after.
If a value is not valid, for example a number out of range, Modulix shows the problem under the field and saves nothing.
Where a value comes from
Under each field, Modulix says where its current value comes from:
| Label | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Module default | Nobody changed it: it is the value the module ships with. |
| Inherited from the platform | A platform administrator set a default for every organization on the server. |
| Set here | Your organization chose this value. |
To go back from your own value to the default, select Use the inherited value under the field. Modulix shows Setting reset, and the field shows the module's or the platform's value again. Later changes to that default then apply to your organization too.
Platform defaults (platform administrators)
Platform administrators see a Platform defaults switch at the top of the page. With it turned on, the form edits the values every organization on the server inherits, "Values every organization inherits unless it sets its own." Organizations that Set here a value keep theirs.
To remove a platform default, select Use the module default under the field.
Module sections
Each enabled module with settings adds a section, named after the module. The section disappears when the module is disabled; its values are kept for when it is enabled again.
| Section | What you set there |
|---|---|
| Custom Fields | The maximum number of fields per record type. See Custom fields. |
| Documents | Maximum file size, storage quota, allowed and blocked file types, how long the trash keeps files. See Documents. |
| Forms | Whether forms can have a public link, the largest file a question accepts, how long responses are kept. See Forms. |
| Inventory | Whether stock can go below zero. See Stock tracking. |
| Notes | The default note color and the maximum number of notes. See Notes. |
| Notifications | Whether notifications are sent by email and by browser push, and how long notifications are kept. See Notifications administration. |
| Organization Structure | The default currency and country of new units, and the maximum hierarchy depth. See Organization structure. |
| Pricing | The largest discount for roles without their own limit. See Pricing and discounts. |
| Purchasing | Purchase order numbering, default terms and the look of PDFs. See Purchase orders. |
| Sales | Quotation validity, numbering of quotations, orders, invoices and credit notes, payment terms, default terms and the look of PDFs. See Quotations and Invoicing. |
| Taxes | Whether your prices include tax. See Taxes. |
| Workflow Automation | Whether workflows may send webhooks, their timeout, and the maximum number of enabled workflows. See Workflow automation. |
Each module's page in this documentation describes its settings in detail.
Personal preferences
Some settings belong to each person rather than to the organization: theme, language, time zone, and personal options of modules. People set them on their profile. See Profile and preferences.
